“The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science…. One infinite God, good, … equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man….” (S&H 340:15-29)

Mrs. Eddy was divinely inspired when she wrote this about obeying the First Commandment, by including “equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man.” Only as we rightfully recognize and acknowledge the motherhood of God, and Mrs. Eddy’s role as its representative, are we truly obeying the First Commandment. It is also imperative that each one of us recognize and acknowledge both the masculine and feminine side of our true spiritual nature — this alone will equalize the sexes. As this is done, the curse on man — original sin, male chauvinism — will be annulled. This was the curse that Romanism introduced into early Christianity, — a curse that I grew up with and escaped from solely through Mrs. Eddy’s teachings at Plainfield Church.
