Reply To: Mrs. Eddy on the Transfiguration

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

At the beginning of the chapter “The Millennium” in Addresses by Martha Wilcox, she says:

The fulfillment of prophecy always seems remote, just as it did in the days of the coming of Jesus. But if we had eyes to see, we would perceive that the fulfillment of prophecy is but the appearing in consciousness of that which is already in existence.

I am very grateful that the pure Christian Science taught in Plainfield allows us to grow spiritually to the point where the true importance of Mary Baker Eddy and Christ Jesus become at first faintly visible, and then clearer and clearer all the time.

I am also quite thankful for Mrs Eddy’s explanation, as it is a stark contrast to some branches of Christianity feeling it is Jesus showing off his deific power. Even Matthew Henry wrote, in his Concise Commentary on Luke 9:28: “Christ’s transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him.”

How much better to know that Jesus’ teaching allowed at least some of his students to gain the spiritual sense to witness more of “that which is already in existence.” I find this very comforting. Thank you!
