confused

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The following appears in the biography of Edward Kimball. “This explains why, very often, Christian Scientists are the most confused people on earth. “The material universe is nothing and represents nothing, while Spirit is everything, but we seemingly have to live in the material.” This has led, in practice, to a dualism that is fatal to the practice of Christian Science, and we have the Red Dragon, or unhandled animal magnetism, to thank for it.”
I must admit I am confused on this very issue. Would someone be able to explain this concept. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for the above quotes: Mrs. Eddy answers all questions!

Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy, page 280:
There are not two, — Mind and matter. We must get rid of that notion.

Essays and Other Footprints, (the “Red Book”), by Mary Baker Eddy, page 74:
God’s dear love for His children is so deep and far-reaching that He does not afflict us. It is our mistaken sense of Life that brings pain and sorrow.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 369:
[Jesus] understood man, whose life is God, to be immortal, and knew that man has not two lives, one to be destroyed and the other to be made indestructible.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 591:
MAN. The compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind.

Between old theology, intellectualism, and all the rest of the noise of the human mind, we sure seem to have a lot to handle. Thankfully the writings of Mary Baker Eddy show us how to handle all errors and prove them as nothingness. Combine that with all that Plainfield offers, and with practitioner support, I have learned not to stay in human imagination while trying to figure it out. As Gilbert Carpenter wrote in Watching Point 1 of 500 Watching Points, “If you should fall through the ice, you would become further imprisoned if you attempted to swim at once for the shore. The first thing to do is to rise.”

If we stay in the belief we are mortal (material) trying to become immortal (spiritual), it will never happen. That is looking up to Him from the wrong side of the ice. If, however, we rise out of that belief and work to express the qualities of God and truly live this Science, then we are on our way to shore on the right side. As we are faithful in expressing the good that God is giving us to do each moment of the day — always in practical, concrete ways which bless and heal — we gain confidence in Truth and Love, and lose all confidence in error because we will see it has no value and no substance in our lives.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 253:
If you believe in and practise wrong knowingly, you can at once change your course and do right. Matter can make no opposition to right endeavors against sin or sickness, for matter is inert, mindless.

    Thank you!
