Solar year or Soul-filled years?

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The measurement of life by solar years robs youth and gives ugliness to age. The radiant sun of virtue and truth coexists with being. Manhood is its eternal noon, undimmed by a declining sun. As the physical and material, the transient sense of beauty fades, the radiance of Spirit should dawn upon the enraptured sense with bright and imperishable glories.
Never record ages. Chronological data are no part of the vast forever. Time-tables of birth and death are so many conspiracies against manhood and womanhood. Except for the error of measuring and limiting all that is good and beautiful, man would enjoy more than threescore years and ten and still maintain his vigor, freshness, and promise. Man, governed by immortal Mind, is always beautiful and grand. Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty, and holiness.(S&H p246)

In thinking about this passage in the lesson this week, the term “solar year” stood out to me. So just what is a “solar year”? The time it takes for a rock we name earth to make one full trip around a ball of gas we have named the sun, and this is supposedly what determines how much of life we have and to what degree we have it? It determines, supposedly the degree of beauty, strength, promise and longevity, our opportunities for success or our failures. Then I became so grateful that because of Christian Science we can turn this whole incorrect measurement of life on its head and realize that our life the one Life is not measured by solar years. In S&H page 598 Mrs Eddy gives a definition of year…

    YEAR.
“One day is with the Lord as a thousand years.”
    (II Peter iii. 8.)
One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity.
This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in the full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown. Time is a mortal thought, the divisor of which is the solar year. Eternity is God’s measurement of Soul-filled years.

Thank you Lesson Writer for this beautiful lesson on Life.

I think it was Mrs. Eddy who remarked that old age is the destruction of that which never was?
