Ye are bought with a price – glorify God

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” – Golden Text, I Cor 6:20.

“How revealing to recognize that we are ‘bought with a price’ — something is exchanged. Personal sense, human concepts, material hypotheses, beliefs of personal ability, and all the vagaries of mortal mind, which can never result in healing and regeneration, must be given up. In place of accepting the wrong standpoint of personal ability, we must arrive at an unerring recognition of God’s power. The resplendent light which then permeates consciousness brings assurance of man’s true spiritual being, his perfection as the idea or child of God, his constant ability to appreciate and recognize the infinite source of his ability and being” (“Glorify God” by Jean Hunter, CSJ, March, 1955).

“The spiritual understanding and ability needed in the healing of sickness and sin for oneself or others ‘is not merely a gift.’ It is bought with a price, a great price’ – a price, not beyond one’s present ability to pay, but one which nevertheless must be paid. Christ Jesus has shown us the way, and he does not spare us the necessity of traversing it. . . . The price to be paid may seem a great price to mortal sense, when stern, selfless relinquishment of materiality is required for the pearl to be found and then bought. But how clearly does Science reveal the worthlessness of all else, its disappointments and disillusionments, its devious ways, narrowing, darkening, and finally shorn of even a passing splendor!“ (“Value” by Evelyn F. Heywood, CSJ, August, 1942).

“Christian Science . . . is the pearl priceless. . . Buyeth it! Note the scope of that saying, even that Christianity is not merely a gift, as St. Paul avers, but is bought with a price, a great price; and what man knoweth as did our Master its value, and the price he paid for it?” (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 252-253).

“Seek Truth, and pursue it. It should cost you something: you are willing to pay for error and receive nothing in return; but if you pay the price of Truth, you shall receive all” (Miscellaneous Writings, page 342).

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has shown us the way – Christian Science is bought with a price, a great price, and what woman knoweth as did our Leader its value, and the price she paid for it?!!
