Progression and Probation

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Universal salvation rests on progression and probation, and is unattainable without them. Heaven is not a locality, but a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal, because sin is not there and man is found having no righteousness of his own, but in possession of “the mind of the Lord,” as the Scripture says.” from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, page 291 : 12-18

In Science and Health, page 30, Mrs. Eddy also writes, “If we have triumphed sufficiently over the errors of material sense to allow Soul to hold the control, we shall loathe sin and rebuke it under every mask.”

“Our sins are not forgiven [until forsaken], here or hereafter; for every sin there is a just measure of misery, and death cannot advance our joy, nor make us wiser, better, or more pure. The Science of all being must be learned ere this is won. Bliss is not the boon of one brief moment. After the veil has dropped, we have to learn the same as now our way to heaven, by slow and solemn footsteps, for no man cometh to the Father but through Truth and Love.” fron an article recently added to our website: Life From the Christian Science Journal, April 1918, by Mary Baker Eddy

We are also told we will repeat our work in tears until corrected and must go forth even with bleeding footsteps. These are not easy but even in Jesus’ time they complained his words hard to hear. I see that often it is the suffering that makes us loathe and forsake sin and willing to let it go. I am grateful to be where this is understood, taught and lived. We are told the path is straight and narrow not a flowery path but the joy and peace that comes from healing sin is priceless.
