God’s Law of Restoration’ by Myrtle Smyth

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

What a beautiful testimony meeting service today October 26,2022 which included in the readings a lovely citation from Miscellaneous Writings by MBE page 354: 15-19 “A little more grace, a motive made pure, a few truths tenderly told, a heart softened, a character subdued, a life consecrated, would restore the right action of the mental mechanism, and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God.”
This reminded me of a powerful CS lecture by Myrtle Smith from Belfast Ireland called “God’s Law of Restoration” where she uses each phrase to demonstrate how to put this into practice in our daily lives.

    1) A little more grace
. Be full of grace, think, speak, be grace in action
    . Say grace at mealtimes
    . Express gratitude often
. Be silent when necessary, no gossiping

    2) A motive made pure
. Our motive should be to understand God better and identify self and others properly as the structure of Truth and Love
. How will you structure the next sentence, conversation correctly?

    3) A few truths tenderly told
. Jesus said “Love one another as I have loved you (John 13, 34) not using truths harshly to make a point
. MBE says “tenderness accompanies all the might of Spirit” (S&H 514 18-19)
. Put the oil of tenderness and gentleness into everything you do (Oil S&H 592 25-26)

    4) A heart softened
. Be more tender and soft hearted, more forgiving rather than having hardened thoughts and attitudes – critical, judging, condemning (manifesting as health issues of arteries and heart)
. Let love circulate (circulation) without pride or stubbornness
. If we are not loving, we are not living “for love alone is Life” (Hymn 30) If we are loving, we are seeing everyone as the child of God

    5) A character subdued
. Don’t accept human character traits getting in the way of our true Christlike sonship/daughtership. Being apologetic and accepting that we cannot change poor traits like laziness, forgetfulness, untidiness, timidity… (Sinful and breaking the first commandment)

    6) A life consecrated (to God)
. Consecrated every day, every hour and not just when it suits us
. Tithe time and pray…for church, CS movement, practitioners, local community, local council, our government, leaders, world beliefs…
. Eg pray for government and know that God is really governing, that politicians, bureaucrats and public servants are His children too, and all reflect the one Mind and have the same source of intelligence…

Know each day that CS is the Truth and that CS heals quickly, effectively, permanently and every child of God everywhere knows that it heals. Claim that every truth being declared or even read anywhere in the world at this moment must bear fruit and bring God’s law of restoration into action. This activity “would restore the right action of the mental mechanism, and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God.” This law of restoration is present and in our minds, in our bodies, in our lives, in our church, our community, our country, our world. I accept this truth fully for everyone, all God’s children created perfect, pure, whole, satisfied, peaceful, joyful, healthy, eternal, ageless, timeless, deathless, completely spiritual now, always have been and always will be. This Truth redeems and restores.
