Thy darkness be as the noonday

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday.” (Isaiah) We have learned here a simple rule, “Expression is the opposite of depression.” In times past whenever I would be feeling sick and/or depressed it would be easy to think even more about my troubles or want to discuss them with others – looking for support and sympathy. It took a practitioner in this church to teach me this kind of action (or self-centered inaction!) was only sinking me deeper into a mesmeric hole. I was also looking to people rather than to God for my answers and for my comfort and not blessing them at all! I needed to forget self and to think of how I might bless others and not in some do-goody way but in a Divinely directed way, knowing I could reflect His intelligence and His Love. This, of course, was an entirely new way of looking at things and took some struggles on my part to become obedient and to follow Christ’s path. The results however were and are tremendous. Thank God, a practitioner loved enough to show me the better way and to bring me out of that self-inflicted darkness into the everlasting Light of noonday!

“feeling sick and/or depressed it would be easy to think even more about my troubles” Well stated, this really strikes a chord!! Reading the lesson this morning, citation 7 from S&H, “Through false estimates of soul as dwelling in sense and of mind as dwelling in matter, belief strays into a sense of temporary loss or absence of soul, spiritual truth. This state of error is the mortal dream of life and substance as existent in matter, and is directly opposite to the immortal reality of being. So long as we believe that soul can sin or that immortal Soul is in mortal body, we can never understand the Science of being.” struck me as a good focus for today. Combined with the clarity from the above post reaffirmed what I need to accomplish, always using the starting point of ‘perfect man and perfect creation.’ Thank you very much!!
