“Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine power.” (S&H 453)

I used to wonder how honesty could be spiritual power, but have grown to see that honesty is a state of thought that is worthy of divine power, because it is receptive to that which is right and uncluttered with lies. Dishonesty is a thought that is all cluttered up, so that God can’t be heard. Nothing worthy of divine anything, hence Mrs. Eddy’s description as not only human, but the worst of human – weakness.

I’ve seen that people can make the worst mistakes; yet, if they are made honestly, and not hidden in deception, God will reveal whatever is needed to learn from those mistakes. I think of Paul persecuting Christians. Talk about a big mistake. Yet, he honestly thought he was doing right, and when he was blinded by the light, he did not try to hide from anything or anyone. God was able to use his honesty to do great things.

I’m grateful to learn that it is not a badge of shame to make a mistake. As long as I am honest about it and open, God reveals what I need to learn from the experience. Rather is it a badge of shame to try to hide the mistake and lie about it, for then the lesson is not learned. Ananias and Sapphira found that out the hard way.
