I am very grateful for the discussions this past weekend, and all that was brought out about false prophets, and also that this week’s lesson continues this discussion with the following statements:

3. Matthew 24
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

As was stated during the Bible Study, false prophets use a different source than the Bible, a different message than the Christ, and a different position where one is mastered by sin rather than seeking to eradicate it.

With the Catholic ritual of Lent, and the heaviness it brings, I was thinking about that fact that false prophets start from a different premise, a false assumption that others agree upon. The premise of Christian Science is that good is our natural state, whereas Catholicism and many other religions I’ve been exposed to say we must be good in spite of our natural state.

That false assumption that we need to go against our nature to be good must be why these systems of control were fabricated in the first place. If you think the worst of people, then you must devise methods to subdue and control them. Having that initial assumption makes the second one your “duty” as someone who wants society to function. You can see why people do this “for the good of the people.” You can also see why each system fails: They all start from that faulty premise.

To me, that is one of the reasons why Christian Science is so refreshing. Having the premise that “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31) and also that there is nothing separating me from God, shows that my true nature is to express God’s Will. There is no need to create a system of control around that Truth, hence how much sense it makes that this church has only enough organization to fulfill its mission, and never uses that to control (erroneously influence) the individual.

I am so grateful how Christian Science and all this church offers is bit-by-bit doing away with these false beliefs and bringing me back to my original state as God’s idea. What a blessing this is! Thank you!
