Reply To: Absorbed in material selfhood

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Curious to know a deeper meaning, I looked up “absorbed” in the 1828 dictionary: Imbibed; swallowed; wasted; engaged; lost in study; wholly engrossed.”

“Wasted” and “lost in study” stood out to me because I once was absorbed in material selfhood (while keeping my Science mostly on the sidelines, waiting…) and now feel so much time was wasted where I could have made more progress getting closer to my Father-Mother! But I didn’t know how practically to go about it, really, until the teaching in this church got me straightened out. I went from “discerning and reflecting but faintly the substance of Life” to now really feeling that my true substance is spiritual, it is walking with God. What a shift–that I hardly thought possible–but now I know there is no more time to waste or be “lost in study” of the material rather than the substantive spiritual.
