Wandering Pollen

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    S&H Citation 9. 234 : 25-3

    Evil thoughts and aims reach no farther and do no more harm than one’s belief permits. Evil thoughts, lusts, and malicious purposes cannot go forth, like wandering pollen, from one human mind to another, finding unsuspected lodgment, if virtue and truth build a strong defence.

    From Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures 19th Edition, 1886 p.119

    “Evil thoughts and aims reach farther and do greater harm than visible crimes. Evil thoughts, lusts, and malicious purposes, going forth, like wandering pollen, from one human mind to another, find inadvertent lodgment, unless virtue and Truth build a strong defense. Better suffer a doctor infected with small-pox to attend you, than be treated mentally by one who obeys not the Christian requirements of Science.”

    Reading in the current addition of Science and Heath 234:25-3, I felt I was well protected from mental thoughts with my study and ‘practice’ of Christian Science. Reading the different language but same meaning from the 1886 Edition made me realize I was being very lackadaisical and had to take a stronger stance in blocking out wrong thoughts. Coming to Plainfield and with help from all the discussions and wonderful information provided I came to realize that I was doing minimal control of my thoughts and was sending out much ‘wandering pollen’ of my own!! I am so grateful to be made aware of this needed correction, am very grateful for the teaching here that is helping me work my way out of this wrong mind; too slowly but very steadily! Thank you for this beautiful Lesson Sermon!

    The following paragraph from the 1886 Edition of Science and Health reads as follows;

    “Fettered by sin yourself, it is difficult to free another from the fetters of disease. With your own wrists manacled, it is hard to break another’s chains. But a little leaven ferments the whole mass. A grain of Christian Science does wonders for the sick, so omnipotent is Truth: but more of Science is needed.”

    I’m very grateful for all the work and sacrifice and prayer that Mary Baker Eddy put into her ‘child’ Christian Science. I’m grateful for her great wisdom and skill in writing and preserving her work; every tidbit saved by her and loyal students is uplifting to God’s creation!! So wonderful to have this ‘needed’ ‘Science!’
