The order of wisdom

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

In Science and Health is the statement “The higher nature of man is not governed by the lower; if it were, the order of wisdom would be reversed.” The higher nature is obviously divine reflection, the lower nature to me means feeling the push to operate without God, which is nothing more than flying blind. Hence the great wisdom expressed by Joseph when he said “It is not in me: God will give Pharaoh and answer of peace.” What a comfort it is to know there is always an answer of peace, if I would only open my heart to feel it, instead of getting caught up in intellectual wrestling, which is nothing more than trying to manipulate thoughts. What a blessing it is to let in the right thought and feeling instead of forcing the issue and thereby reversing the order of wisdom.

I love Joseph’s words, “God shall give Pharoah an answer of peace.” Years ago I was so perplexed by this, wondering how Joseph could know the interpretation would be an answer of peace before he knew the interpretation (actually before he even knew the dream). It was a couple of years later when it suddenly struck me that God’s answer is always an answer of peace. How beautiful that is and how patiently we must sometimes wait for an answer to our questions.
