The repairer of the breach

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.” Isa. 58

“Thou shalt be called – this was to be the special work,” Ellicott’s Commentary

“The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths, … from its ruins after the captivity, …teaching that the people of God, if they are faithful in keeping his commandments, and in manifesting the spirit which becomes the church, will repair the ruins which sin has made in the world, and rebuild the wastes and the desolations of many ages…. either by the lapse of time, or by a siege. …Thorns, and brambles, and trees would have grown upon them; and having been long neglected, they would be impassable.” Barnes Commentary

I am very grateful to have found Plainfield Church Independent, who has taken up this special work repairing the breach and restoring of paths. Here we can learn how to “unwind our snarls”; use “the eternal Truth” to destroy error; “pick away the hard pebbles of selfishness”; to uproot “the noxious weeds of passion, malice, envy, and strife” “and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God.” (All quotes by Mary Baker Eddy and can be found in Science and Health and Prose Works)
