I glimpsed from this week’s Bible Lesson how potent and all-transforming is just a drop of living water!
William D. Kilpatrick, states in his book “All Being is Consciousness” [abbreviated here] , “one good thought admitted into consciousness will have its good effect in everything that we undertake… Even a grain of Truth held in consciousness will work miracles if we are open and free in thought.”
He illustrates this with “a letter written by a woman who was poverty-stricken, and almost starving because of drought when, through some Christian Science literature which was sent them, consciousness was impregnated with a little glimpse of the divine and a spark of heaven-born hope was kindled”:
“The days have been long and sad on Montana’s dry prairie this year. Thank you so much for sending the good reading stuff you did. Please send me more, as you know we are poor and so is everyone else around here. You know our land is rather low, and consequently we had water and feed after the neighbors had none. Then our slough dried up, and we had to haul water for miles from town. Our horses were poor and weak, and Walter is not much for hard work. He is now past seventy, and it certainly did look dark for us. We had 16 head of cattle, some calves and four horses. They were not anything. We would have given them away if anybody could have given them feed and water. Cattle and horses were lying dead, and the air was foul with the smell of dead animals. The cows had gone dry. We did not get milk or butter. I don’t think you can fully understand how hopeless it all was. The $8.00 a month the Government let us have kept us from starving, but not the cattle. Even the Russian Thistle was scarce, but with water we could pull through. I washed dishes once a day in a quart of water, and fed it to the pigs. The chickens were the only things that did well; there were plenty of grasshoppers for them to eat.
