"According to the dream…"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“A mortal may be weary or pained, enjoy or suffer, according to the dream he entertains in sleep.” (cit. #12 in S&H)

When I read this, I asked myself, “what dream(s) am I entertaining? Am I entertaining the dream of age, thinking that aches and pains and decrepitude are in my body – my hips, knees or joints, – rather than in a “dream of age” that I’m entertaining? To entertain means to welcome in and host a guest, or to amuse a captive audience. Am I “entertaining” and welcoming in this unwanted “guest” called age (or any other false belief) into my home – my consciousness? If I do, it’s going to wreak havoc in my “home.” I refuse to be a captive audience to error’s lies.
Thank you, Lesson writer, and Plainfield Church, for the “peals” that help us awake from these slumbering dreams.

(Webster 1828 defines peal as “usually a succession of loud sounds, as of bells, thunder, cannon, shouts of a multitude, etc.”)
