Affirmations

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    Prayer lead me back to Martha Wilcox’s book of Addresses, the chapter on Affirmations. These are some of the statements that jumped off the pages:

    “While one’s affirmation should be the specific positive statement of Truth with regard to the false claim or suggestion, it should also be so universal that you can feel that all are blessed thereby.” (page 25)
    “We should think of God as activity, using verbs to describe Him rather than by employing nouns which are static.” (page 26)
    “Declare daily that all action is Divine action.” (page 27)

    I am working to overcome the false claim of an imperfect body. Knowing that God supplies all the we need, I found the following specific affirmations to apply: What is Man? in Science & Health 475:6 – 477:18, Science & Health page 390 – 393, and The Word Made Flesh by Martha Wilcox.

    I am also making a list of verbs to describe God and me as His image and likeness.

    I am so grateful for God’s help, support and love which allows me to progress and grow in the understanding of Divine Science.

    As stated in Hymn 64…

    From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me,
    From mist and shadow into Truth’s clear day;
    The dawn of all things real is breaking o’er me,
    My heart is singing: I have found the way.

    I reach Mind’s open door, and at its portal
    I know that where I stand is holy ground;
    I feel the calm and joy of things immortal,
    The loveliness of Love is all around.

    The way leads upward and its goal draws nearer,
    Thought soars enraptured, fetterless and free;
    The vision infinite to me grows clearer,
    I touch the fringes of eternity.

    With love,

    Debi
