August 21st Roundtable Reflections

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I want to express my appreciation for the recent Roundtable on Mind where the topic of vanity and pride was discussed so clearly. From the simple one-liner, “it’s not safe to be vain,” to the many examples of how problematic it is to personalize pretty much anything. I derive great benefit from listening to each thoughtful contribution which reinforces the Science of the Christ and its practical application.

Also from the same Roundtable, I have been contemplating the idea that Mary spoke of: “If you look at someone who needs healing, look at their face and see the face of God.” This is not an abstract idea, nor an intellectual exercise, nor can it be something one tries to do humanly. My understanding is that when one so thoroughly embodies the Christ in one’s individual consciousness one can do nothing less than reflect God’s infinite Love for mankind. . . and this heals, just as surely as it did when Jesus saw the perfect man.

Finally, I found the readings of Kate Buck (available on the Plainfield website) to be fortifying. She keeps the focus on seeking and knowing God rather than giving in to the tendency to looking at physical symptoms and physical results.

I am very thankful for these ongoing lessons and for the teachings of Christian Science that Plainfield CS Independent continuously gives so freely and generously to the world.
