Bible reading caution by Mrs. Eddy

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Recently I found the book entitled, “Miscellaneous Documents Relating to Christian Science and Its Discoverer and Founder Mary Baker Eddy Author of the Textbook Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures.”

One of the helpful passages I recently found is:
“Mrs. Eddy cautions her students not to fall into the habit of spiritualizing everything in the Bible. It has its historical features and these must be considered as historical only.”

We found a print version of the book this week on Amazon only. There may be other sources.

More from the same book: “All through the class the spiritual teachings of the Scriptures were emphasized, and she [Mrs. Eddy] said: ‘Every word in the Bible is capable of spiritual interpretation.’”
