“Bless the Lord”

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:” Psalm 103:2

“Bless: To praise; to glorify. BLESS the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Psalms 103:1.” Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

I came across a sermon regarding Psalm 103 that made me appreciate the psalm more deeply and its use as a practical prayer. It is exactly the instruction we are taught at Plainfield. Sometimes we need to hear messages many times for it to sink into and become part of us.

“When you are fearful, do you command your soul to trust in the Lord? When your affections are low, do you command your heart to bless the Lord? As Paul Tripp is fond of saying, ‘no one is more influential in your life than you are because no one talks to you more than you do.’ In the particularly difficult moments of the day, how do you talk to yourself? How do you specifically exhort yourself to hope in God? … David remind(s) himself of who God is and what God has done. …. When you’re talking to yourself, are you reminding yourself of what God has done for you? Do you have specific texts with which you exhort your soul? … Hold fast to a specific truth about the Lord. Summon your soul to bless the Lord. Find specific texts by which you can fight the fight of faith.” by Ryan Griffith, 2012

From our website a similar message from an article titled, How Can You Help Yourself by Peter V Ross. He addresses what are you saying to yourself and how to respond with Christian Science.
