Can we ask Him to be more?

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“God is Love. Can we ask Him to be more?” Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, page 2

“The first day’s teaching on the subject of Love she (Mary Baker Eddy) concluded somewhat as follows: Love is the Father, who is strong in His care for His children and provides for every need. Love feeds, clothes, and shelters every one of His dear ones. Love is a Mother tenderly brooding over all Her children. This Mother guards each one from harm, nourishes, holds close to Herself, and carefully leads along the upward way. Love is a Shepherd who goes forth into the darkness of the night, into the storm and wind, to find the lost sheep. This Shepherd of Love leaves the beaten path, searches the wood and marsh, pushes aside the brambles, and seeks until the lost is found; then He places it within His bosom and returns to heal and restore.” from Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy by REV. Irving C. Tomlinson, page 90

In the recent compilation of notes from Paul Smillie’s book there were many references to Mother and Motherhood that really caught my attention. Click on the title of the article for a link to see it in its entirety.

“’Loving Our Leader’ We must thoroughly handle the hatred of original sin directed at her, but which appears as our own thinking about her. Know there is no resistance or contempt for our Leader, her womanhood, her mothering, and her demonstration of Christian Science, her revelation of God’s motherhood.” Metaphysical Notes to use while working and watching for our Church and the world From In Defense of Mary Baker Eddy and the Remnant of Her Seed by Paul Smillie
