Despise not prophesyings

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    14. I Thessalonians 5
    20 Despise not prophesyings.

The definition of despise in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary is “1. To contemn; to scorn; to disdain; to have the lowest opinion of. 2. To abhor.”

During my time in Plainfield, I have been learning from my practitioner, and from the Roundtables, how detrimental it is to the Boston movement that they deny Mrs. Eddy’s place in prophecy as the Woman in the Apocalypse. To claim to be a Christian Scientist and yet “have the lowest opinion of” Mrs. Eddy’s place in prophecy makes no sense, even from a human standpoint. People are always seeking to appear more credible, so to actively deny the Biblical credibility that prophecy would bring feels to me like a purposeful sabotage of a movement they apparently “abhor.”

    2. Proverbs 15 : 32
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

Thank God for all the mostly-excommunicated early workers who had the love and understanding of Mrs. Eddy, of her life and work, and of her place in prophecy! And thank God that the way was opened to make Plainfield an independent Church that is working for the good of the Cause! I am grateful to be here studying Christian Science; to be learning all about Mrs. Eddy’s life, her work, and her place in prophecy; and to know this understanding is opening the way for me to be able heal and comfort others. Thank you!
