Except it be given him from heaven.

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” from Christ Jesus, John 3

“Receive: To come into possession of; to act as a receptacle or container for; to assimilate through the mind or sense; to permit to enter; to accept as authoritative, true, or accurate.” Webster’s Online Dictionary

This line made me appreciate the constant teaching here at Plainfield to, “stand porter at the door of thought” (Mary Baker Eddy) and to filter thoughts with the question, “Is this from a God who loves me?” This statemnet is telling us, we can “receive nothing” except it be “from heaven.” Also taught and lived here at Plainfield, Jesus’ saying from John 19:11, “Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above.” I am so grateful my practitioner pointed this out to me this week – and reminded me that no disease, no personality, no negative thoughts can come! Only that which is sent from heaven!

    Thank you lesson writers!

    Thank you for this post!
In Science and Health, it says, “The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man.” (284:31-32)
And in the March 12, 2022 Bible Study, it says regarding Divinity School, God teaches each one individually.
And Mary Baker Eddy counsels in her article entitled, “Day”:
“I tell you truth when I say there is only one source of all good — God. The conscious recognition and acceptance of this fact acknowledged by every activity of the mind, not two or three times a day — but every few moments all day long — no matter what the outer self is doing, and this maintained, will enable anyone to express his perfect freedom and dominion over all things human.”
Thank you for these Lessons, and the light that everyone shines on them!
