Faith without works is dead.

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“And the serpent said unto the woman, … And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” Genesis 3

This reminded me of something found in Addresses by Martha Wilcox, “At one time, I was under her (Mary Baker Eddy) personal instruction and was a mental worker for seven weeks. One evening she gave me a problem to work, and, of course, I had a great desire to prove the reality at hand; so I worked the greater part of the night. In the morning she called me to her and said: ‘Martha, why did you not do your work?’ I replied, ‘Mother, I did.’ She said: ‘No, you didn’t. You had a good talk with the devil. Why did you not know God’s allness?’ I said: ‘Mother, I tried.’ And her reply was, ‘Well, if Jesus had just tried and failed we would have no Science today.’ Then she had a card hung on the inside of my room on which was printed in large letters, ‘Faith without works is dead.’ I looked at that for two weeks!”(page 16-17)

From this Lesson is a perfect counter to serpent thoughts:
“Truth has but one reply to all error, — to sin, sickness, and death: ‘Dust [nothingness] thou art, and unto dust [nothingness] shalt thou return.'” From Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, page 545 : 27-5
