Filling the Vacuum

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Vacuity” (SH, 1910, p. 480) signifies vacancy, emptiness, space unoccupied.

Mrs. Eddy writes, “Desire is prayer.”

Jesus taught, “Whatsoever things ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:24)

“Believe that ye receive them” means absolute trust that occupies or inhabits the feelings of the desire fulfilled, present tense, regardless of the absence of outward manifestation of the prayer answered.

The “darkness of vacuity” is dispelled by obeying the command: “Occupy till I come.” (Luke 19:13) Rather than vacate the “house of the Lord” (consciousness of God) I am to be occupied, to be filled with the serene sense of having already found that which I have sought.

“Occupy” signifies settledness, no flightiness, no stolen visits.

“Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds.” (SH, 1910, p. 1)
