Flesh

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Romans 8:5 “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”

“FLESH. An error of physical belief; a supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter; an illusion; a belief that matter has sensation.” Science and Health p.586

Definition of flesh from King James Bible online resource:

    Carnality; corporeal appetites.
“The flesh lusteth against the spirit.” Gal. 5.

    A state of unrenewed nature.
“They that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Rom. 8.

    The corrupt nature.
“Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.”

This lesson is again a perfect follow up to the last two weeks. Last Sunday we discussed what the definition of heart was: consciousness, seat of affections, vital part, motive. I ask myself where is my heart? I see now to grow in faith I must be pure in heart. Mary Baker Eddy says faith, “is a chrysalis state of human thought” and we must, “put our desires into practice.” This means to me I must work for a change of thought and put the new thought in practice to see God. Before Plainfield’s correct teaching this was a foreign idea to me.
