Girdeth me with strength

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.” (Psalms) As you start out your day this is a good thought to keep with you. It is very easy to fall into the demands of the moment and begin to run around thinking you have so much to do and to thus lose your connection with your Father – forgetting the very important fact He alone enables you to do whatever task is before you. This includes even the so-called mundane jobs like making the bed, driving to work etc. Keep remembering you do not go in your own strength, which will fail, but in the strength of God. And know too, as you are turning humbly to Him for all things, He will make your way perfect!

Thank you for this important reminder. I grateful for all that I am learning here to get personal will and sense out of the way. These lessons are helping me to be aware when I am operating on auto pilot, not paying attention, which sets me up for absorbing negative thinking rather than radiating thoughts from God. Instead of just praying in the morning and waiting to the end of the day to check in with God, leaving a great gap, I am working more diligently on keeping that connection throughout the day. This has been requiring great discipline and getting myself out of the way. Learning from the mistakes helps me grow too.

I came across this today while cleaning up my files. It was published as a quote in the Sept. 1888 Journal.

“To be dependent on others for sympathy and comfort makes you weak. To be self-dependent makes you weaker still; for that fails you in the day of your greatest need. To become independent is a dream of your pride; for no such thing is possible. To become dependent on God makes you strong.” E. H. SEARS

Thank you. I have always loved the statements in the Bible that speak of strength. In the 1828 Dictionary some definitions for strength are as follows: Power of resisting attacks, fastness, power of mind, intellectual force; the power of any faculty; as strength of memory, strength of reason; strength of judgment. Realizing that my entire being resides in the strength of God I CAN do all things through Him. How wonderful!

I have been working on a situation that did not seem to be going anywhere. It felt like I had hit bottom and it would never get resolved. We spoke at the Roundtable on Sunday August 27, 2017 that we need to learn patience. This was something I needed to learn.

Speaking with a Plainfield practitioner, she gave me this statement from this week’s Golden Text, “It is God that girded me with strength” and I was told to put the situation in God’s hands.

Every time I thought about this situation I knew God was my strength, God was in control and governing. Getting myself out of the way, answers came and now the problem is yielding with practitioner help. Progress is being made and the situation is being resolved with God’s will being done, not my will.

I am very grateful for the Lessons, Roundtable discussions and practitioner help.

I am so grateful for these posts! There are so helpful!
It came to me the other day that too much of my time is spent on auto-pilot as was mentioned above. Even though I am doing much better in keeping my thoughts on God during the day and night there is a lot more room for God. Thank you SO much !!!!
