Great Demonstrations

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I’m so grateful for the story of Gideon in this week’s lesson. This section of the Bible story was completely new to me.

What fascinated me was how often in the Bible the persons chosen by God to lead the others out of bondage are those who have recognized the injustice being done to them and undertake forms of human steps to move out of the situation. But then with the added descent of the Holy Ghost upon them, and learning to listen to God, ‘few’ persons do mighty deeds. We find Gideon cleverly and protectively harvesting the just fruits of his labors. Gideon is doing his highest sense of right at that point. Then he ‘entertains an angel unaware’ and is able to listen and obey God in proving the nothingness of evil and the omnipotence of God to free his fellow.

Immediately the example of Moses came to mind, being raised as a prince but leaving that privileged life to escape bondage and worship of false gods. Then he is chosen by God and cleaving to Him resulting in many demonstrations.

A more recent example is our exceptional Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. She always chose God and Truth over ‘material comforts,’ the easy way out!! In the end she left us the same legacy as Gideon; not to be a ‘ruler’ over others but to turn all of mankind to the Perfect Government of God.
