"Green pastures" and "still waters"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” (Ps.23:2)

Many years ago, a practitioner in Plainfield helped me greatly with this truth. I was in deep mental turmoil and physical trouble, and had told him I felt like I was at the “edge of a cliff.” He told me that in actuality, I was really lying “down in green pastures” and at that moment was being led by God “beside still waters.” This was such a powerful comfort to me that I’ve never forgotten it. It was like oil anointing my head — my thought. Just as nothing can stick to a well-oiled pan, so no wrong or distressful lie can stick to a thought that is covered with the oil of gladness, gratitude, and inspiration.
