He came to himself

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The story of the prodigal is very instructive and reassuring. The narrative that he came to himself implies that the rebellion that separated him from his father’s house was not his true selfhood. But the humiliating experience of feeding swine and starving was the experience that drove him back to his true self, and the desire to be a hired servant in his father’s house. For me it is helpful to appreciate the experiences that chasten pride and save me from the destruction that pride always brings, and to cherish staying close to God, our Father. It was also stated in the story that the hired servants had all they needed and more. Just think of our loving Father God who does abundantly provide all needs. It is so helpful to stay close to our Father God and thus find our true selfhood.
