“he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake”

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    GOLDEN TEXT: PSALM 23 : 3
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

    11. 477
“Man is the expression of Soul.”

During Roundtables here, it has been mentioned that in some cases ‘name’ and ‘nature’ can be used interchangeably. Two parts of the definition of ‘sake’ (1) are “The primary sense is to strain, urge, press or drive forward” and “Final cause; end; purpose; or rather the purpose of obtaining.” One definition of ‘path’ is “The way” (1) which reminded me of Jesus’ statement “I am the way…” (2) I am grateful also that Mrs. Eddy’s definition of God (3) is right in the lesson.

All this came together in my thought as: “He restoreth my” nature as “the expression of Soul” : God “leadeth me in [the way] of righteousness” to “press or drive [me] forward” for “the purpose of obtaining” the understanding of His nature as “The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.”

Of course, that understanding of His nature is only possible through Christian Science, because that is Christian Science.

Thank you very much for this lesson!
