I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Wikipedia tells you this is one of the most debated verses in the gospel; however as a student of Christian Science, Jesus’ meaning is very clear. Jesus clearly knew you can’t destroy something that doesn’t exist. For example, take the principle of mathematics. 2 X 2 = 5. The principle of mathematics only knows itself or law of 2 X 2 as 4. Is 2 X 2 = 5 destroyed? No, because it never existed in the realm, or principle of mathematics which is the same yesterday, today, and for eternity. A cashier who doesn’t know the laws of math very well and believes 2 x 2 = 5 would have an inharmonious day with customers and balancing the till at the end of the day and would likely be terminated. Similarly, sin or erroneous conscious thinking brings inharmonious or discordant days because it is living outside of God’s laws. Only understanding or realizing the Truth of God’s laws would bring about harmony or reality. As Jesus says, His mission is to fulfill, which to me means to bring out or to express God’s laws. Truth brings God’s laws to fulfillment and it is this dawning of realization or understanding that keeps us safe.
