International and Spiritual Age Of Weaning

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    Bible Lesson:
Section 6 Genesis 21:8 And the child grew, and was WEANED

I once asked La Leche League Canada (La Leche is French for milk)
“What is the international average age for weaning?”
They said, “4 to 7 years.”

Also online from – The Natural Age of Weaning – Return to Now
“According to five of the six methods, the natural age of weaning in humans is between 4.5 and 7 years old”

Our North American concept of early weaning (so often chosen) may be quite different from the practice in Old or New Testament days.

This current international average helps me when studying the Bible to gain some historical perspective on when Issac was weaned.

Or, for example, when how long Moses’ mother may have been allowed to have her child with her before giving the CHILD to the Princess in Egypt.

(Exodus 2:9) And Pharoah’s daughter said unto her, “Take this child away, and nurse it for me… And the woman took the child and nursed it.”

So, Moses’ mother may have had Moses with her for quite a number of years, and been able instruct him about God.

    Hebrews 5:12-13 KJV
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of Go; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

    Hebrews 5:14 KJV
But strong meat belongeth to them that are full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
