Jesus groaned in the spirit

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.” John 11:33

Mary and the Jews believed that Lazarus had died and that it was the end of his life. Jesus told them this is to the glory of God, but they believed not. It says that Jesus groaned. In the 1928 dictionary a groan means, “A deep mournful sound, uttered in pain, sorrow or anguish.” Jesus was anguished that his teaching was not understood.

I asked myself is there anything in me that would anguish Jesus? To cause him sorrow? He showed us the way and we must believe and understand his teaching.
