"Joy"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I am very grateful for the August issue of the Plainfield Newsletter that has just come out. There are so many good ideas packed into it! I found the article on “Joy” by Mary Beth Singleterry very helpful. It seems I have been overwhelmed with discouragement and feelings of depression, too. This article reminds me to be grateful for all the good that we have now and in joy, we find our strength. This has lifted my darkness to light again!
Thank you to all the members who write with the beautifully inspired ideas given from God for all of us to benefit from.

Colleen, thanks for your comment that directed me to the August newsletter issue and the Joy article. I had just been reading about joy in the Blue Book (Articles or Points from Articles) On p. 158, Mrs. Eddy writes about Day.

“…Today is my day. And my world is but a reflection of my own mental attitude. I have the power within myself to reverse any destructive thought entering my mental household. I could not lovingly entertain unwelcome visitors, therefore I shall not willingly entertain unwelcome thoughts.

Each day I shall weed from my mind all thoughts of doubt, fear, malice, hatred, revenge, petty criticism or superstition of any nature whatsoever, and shall begin today believing tremendously in the power of a constructive mental attitude.

This is the day that the Lord has made. In it I will rejoice and be glad. No man taketh my joy from me. Just for today I will know that I am God’s child under His protection and, that no plague can come nigh my dwelling. Just for today I will know that God is good, and that God is Love, and that He knoweth them that trust Him. Just for today I will know that I have strength to meet and conquer every claim of error, and that under the guidance of divine Principle I will be led to throw open the door for the entrance of Truth; and know that through that same door error is cast forth. Then with a sweet sense of God’s nearness I will know that yesterday has gone, and left no bitterness, and that today is big with blessings, that tomorrow belongs to God; and to realize this today eliminates all worry and pain and trouble, and brings us peace and happiness.”

I’m so thankful to be able to read Mrs. Eddy’s thoughts made available in the blue book, Notes on Mary Baker Eddy’s Course in Divinity, Watches, Prayers, Arguments, Items from Gilbert Carpenter’s Collectanea, and Instruction in Metaphysics from MBE) Thanks to the Plainfield Christian Science Church, Independent for offering this powerful resource in your bookstore.
