“Learn to forget what you should not remember”

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The “tree of life” stands for the idea of Truth, and the sword which guards it is the type of divine Science. The “tree of knowledge” stands for the erroneous doctrine that the knowledge of evil is as real, hence as God-bestowed, as the knowledge of good.

This reminded me of the following from the first edition of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy:
Wisdom is not gained of knowledge that brought sin and death into the world; neither is it found in pulp, or the brains of man; this so-called mind is but a belief that matter embraces mind.

It’s interesting to find here that so much of what we’ve learned growing up has been this worthless human knowledge that needs to be let go of. The more I tried to be “realistic” and hold to that knowledge, the less my life felt useful or worth living.

From Class Notes of 1923 by Joseph Mann: “Learn to forget what you should not remember,” Mrs. Eddy says in one of her writings.

As I understand more of Christian Science, I seem to naturally let the false beliefs, doubts, and painful memories drop away, allowing God to work through me with less of that false “me” in the way. It is wonderful to experience. I am so grateful for practitioner support and for all that this Church offers which allows for continual spiritual growth. Thank you!

    Also from Joseph Mann:
What is understood needs not to be remembered.
