Mercy and truth are met together

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Mercy and truth are met together.” (Psalms)
“God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle” (S&H)
We have been taught here the simple truth that “Love without Principle is a jellyfish and Principle without Love is an iceberg.” It is interesting to see how these two go hand and hand. Sometimes I find it good to check myself – have I been getting too mushy with my so-called love or too dictatorial with my so-called principle? When we are expressing Divine Love, Divine Principle is there as well and when we are expressing Divine Principle, Divine Love is in the picture too. The two prove to be inseparable, guarding and guiding each other.
In the book “Dominion Within” by Rev. Kratzer there is an article called, “The Marriage of Truth and Love.” In there he states, “It is one of the ‘wiles of the devil’ to try to divorce truth and love in the consciousness of men, and to make them believe that truth can be advanced through war and strife, carried on with motives of anger, hatred, revenge, self-interest, or self-justification….by no amount of argument, however valid, and by no amount of force by any kind, can we successfully promulgate truth and permanently bring to pass the correct issue, unless, during our efforts, we purposely and habitually exercise the spirit of good-will. In dealing with others, reasoning and good-will are as the wings of a bird. If a bird tries to fly with only one wing, he whirls round and round, to his own confusion, getting nowhere; but using both wings, he makes much progress….Truth will go no faster than love goes as a companion.”
    Very wise counsel!
