Mirth, Folly

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The Preacher, or Solomon, seeking the wisdom of all things, resorted to mirth, among other things. Mirth is another name for loud uncontrolled partying, kind of like a substitute for drugs in an attempt to satisfy or entertain. Solomon was led to conclude that wisdom exceeded folly, which is something absurd or sinful indicating a weakness in character. Interesting how mirth concludes with folly. We have all seen grown adults acting like immature naughty children. It is nothing more than the demands of matter that brings this forth. The only rightful demand on any one is to be the reflection of God, good. There is great gain in denouncing self and having an affection for divine good. It is the demands of matter that claims you are not satisfied, which is a lie about God’s man, made in His likeness, and as satisfied as God Himself is satisfied with His own creation. God made man satisfied, and this is something to be joyful about. The Bible reassures us that the joy of the Lord is our strength, and this is a strong defense against mirth and folly.
