Mrs. Eddy's clear explanations of matter

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I have always found these two passages from the chapter on “Questions and Answers” in Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy, to be very helpful in gaining a better understanding about the concept of “matter” and “material belief.”
“If you will admit, with me, that matter is neither substance, intelligence, nor Life, you may have all that is left of it; and you will have touched the hem of the garment of Jesus’ idea of matter.” (page 74-75)
“Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality; and if mortals are instructed in spiritual things, it will be seen that material belief, in all its manifestations, reversed, will be found the type and representative of verities priceless, eternal, and just at hand.” (page 60-61)
I thank God for Mrs. Eddy’s clear explanations of matter found throughout her works!

Thank you! This is very helpful. What I am learning here at Plainfield also helps because since we are reflection of God,Spirit, we can’t be matter!
