‘Next Friends’ lawsuit

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

A very happy New Year to everyone at Plainfield CS Church! I am so looking forward to the spiritual feast, learning and development that lies ahead in the next 12 months, and am so grateful to be in the wonderful position of being able to join you and partake online.

Recently I have been studying how Mrs Eddy handled some of the attacks that she faced. I watched this excellent short video about the ‘Next Friends’ lawsuit, produced by the Longyear Museum and available on utube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBhT2JyaFZE

Julia Prescott had been called to Concorde to work spiritually, and as the lawyers prepared to visit and interrogate Mrs Eddy at her home, her guidance, according to Julia Prescott, was:

‘Mrs Eddy told us that we must know that no one could hurt us, nor be made to. And that we could not hurt anyone, nor be made to.
That we could nor hurt ourselves, nor be made to. And God loves and helps us all.’

It is such a beautiful instruction, with such emphasis on our own actions rather than defending against any attack, it felt worthy of sharing here. This is going to become one of my focus points for 2022.

So grateful to have access to such wonderful resources as this, on top of the amazing Plainfield website!
