Nicodemus

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

In this Lesson on MORTALS AND IMMORTALS, we have the account of Nicodemus, a Pharisee and scholar, coming to Jesus by night (John 3:1-12), seeking truth. He felt that Jesus came from God, because of the miracles that he did.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” (John 3:7)

“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)

Definition: “WIND. That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God’s spiritual government, encompassing all things. …” (Science and Health, 597:27)

When Nicodemus didn’t understand these things, Jesus said, “Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?”

It was said that Nicodemus was Jerusalem’s most outstanding Bible teacher; he knew about God, but he didn’t know God.
“We enter the kingdom by recognizing who Jesus is — the Son of God, and ‘look’ to him in faith.”
“The Master Evangelist [Jesus] had done his work. He had brought a Bible teacher into the kingdom of God!” (from reformation21.org)
