Open your ears.

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“To those buried in the belief of sin and self, living only for pleasure or the gratification of the senses, he said in substance: Having eyes ye see not, and having ears ye hear not; lest ye should understand and be converted, and I might heal you. He taught that the material senses shut out Truth and its healing power.” by Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, page 38 : 26-32

There has been much instruction at Plainfield about the necessity of learning to listen to God. I am learning that it is impossible to live this Science of Christ without hearing God and following His messages. The above citation from our Lesson this week shows the connection of self centered beliefs and shuting out Truth. Shutting out is to prevent. The opposite are the qualities such as facilitate, unclog, cultivate, encourage, foster, nurture, promote, allow, let, permit. Sunday’s Roundtable addressed the need to unself thought. There are many tools and instructions here to help us do this. Listening to the birds the other day the idea came to me that the birds are singing for all to hear. Some don’t hear them because they don’t focus on the sound, perhaps are distracted, uninterested, or blocked out by earphones. Many lovers of birds seek out the sounds and can identify them. Below is a teaching testimony by Mary Beth Singleterry that got me thinking about whether I was really working on hearing God’s voice which is always there like the birds.

    How to Hear God’s Messages
