"overcometh the world"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

1 John 4 & 5: “Ye are of God, little children, We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

This is comforting, and reminds me of the 91st Psalm, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty….I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust….”

The world can seem like an overwhelmingly cruel place, seething with problems, if we watch the news and be overcome by all the things that seem to be going wrong!

The antidote is always to go to God and focus on Him and His creation–to bring me back to what is real and true! There is no other place to find true comfort, and in this way, putting on my spiritual armor and identifying myself as a child of God, and seeing everyone else as a child of God, I can “overcome the world”–the world’s aggressive suggestions of any power or powers opposed to God. There is only God!

Thank you to the lesson writer.
