Powerful Sunday Roundtable

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Sunday’s roundtable was excellent and strengthening! Fear, and how fear impacts healing, has been such a boogeyman for many Christian Scientists – especially those of us who grew up in the CS culture, that this was a great lesson in properly addressing and handling it for any problem that confronts us. It was stressed that we need to confront the claims of error head on, rather than pretending that they don’t exist or aren’t real when they certainly appear to be real. It was also noted that you’ll always be running from fear or from problems if you don’t turn and stand your ground.

In Watches, Prayers and Arguments p32, I found this excerpt from a letter that Mrs. Eddy wrote to a student that aligns perfectly with what we discussed on Sunday: “To run before a lie is to accept its terms. This works like running before the enemy in battle. You will be followed, pursued, till you face about, trust in God, and stand on Spirit, denying and facing and fighting all claims of matter and mortal mind, both one.

With everything going on in the world lately, this has helped armor my thought and stiffen my spine when it comes to praying for myself and for the world. It also really makes those command statements on 390-393 come alive, a bit like a battle cry: “Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind..” “Blot out the images of mortal thought” “Banish the belief…” “Dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science.”

Thank you to everyone who contributed to that wonderful session!
