Roundtable, Man is not Material…

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Thank you for the inspiring 3/20/22 Roundtable, Man is Not Material, He is Spiritual. Since reading Renie Conley’s testimony in A Century of CS Healing (p. 191), I try to catch my thoughts when leaning on the side of matter, and remember her quote: “The nature of the individual, more stubborn than the circumstances, will always be found arguing for itself,– it’s habits, tastes, and indulgences.” (Misc. Writings, p. 119)

“More stubborn than the circumstances” So true…it brings a smile and breaks the mesmerism.

Another helpful passage in S&H (260:13) “Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done; but distrust of one’s ability to gain the goodness desired and to bring out better and higher results, often hampers the trial of one’s wings and ensure failure at the outset.” The wording, “the trial of one’s wings” is a powerful image/symbol of faith…God is the only power and His work is done, if only I will yield to this truth, to do otherwise is to meet failure before I begin.

Thank you for the wonderful resources you share. I look forward to learning more about the true spiritual history of America; George Washington and others that Lynda shared. George Washington Carver is another great contributor you may want to add to the collection.

Thank you so much for your reference to the testimony in “A Century of Christian Science Healing.” Thanks too for including the page number, as it’s not an easy book to find a specific testimony in. We had read it before but are grateful to be reacquainted with it!
