Sheep

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    “Sheep : Innocence; inoffensiveness; those who follow their leader.” Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health p. 594

    “INNOCENCE:
    harmlessness; purity and simplicity of heart; as the innocence of a child.

    INOFFENSIVE:
    Not obstructing; presenting no hinderance; harmless; doing no injury or mischief.

    FOLLOW:
    To go after; pursue; to walk in the same direction; accompany; to attend in a journey; to follow a pattern or model; to embrace; to adopt and maintain; to obey; to practice; to adhere to; to serve.” Websters 1828

    I appreciate more Christ Jesus’ love for children and use of sheep in his teachings. To be in His pasture requires an active participation not just mindless apathy. Even sheep must pay attention. We were instructed at the last Roundtable to demonstrate God’s omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience also brought out in the Lesson this week. I picture sheep listening, obeying, following because it knows, trusts, and loves its shepherd.

    “I will listen for Thy voice,
    Lest my footsteps stray;
    I will follow and rejoice
    All the rugged way.” by Mary Baker Eddy hymn 304

    Thanks for sharing those definitions.

    “I appreciate more Christ Jesus’ love for children” “as the innocence of a child.”

    I agree completely and have noticed how much Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy refer these attributes to children so have gone to the Glossary in Science and Health to compare ‘sheep’ and ‘lambs.’

    590:9 LAMB OF GOD. The spiritual idea of Love; self-immolation; innocence and purity; sacrifice.

    I LOVE “The spiritual idea of Love” in particular and need to become more of a lamb:)
