Strict Adherence

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Strict adherence to the divine Principle and rules of the scientific method has secured the only success of the students of Christian Science.” (S&H 456:5)

Previously, I attached a somewhat unpleasant connotation to the word “strict.” However, Webster (1828) defines “strict” as “drawing close, as an embrace”; and defines “adherence” as “fidelity.” What a wonderfully new and loving meaning this gives to Mrs. Eddy’s statement. It shows me clearly how to grow close to an ever-loving God. In order to succeed in the practice of Christian Science –– really, the practice of Life –– I must embrace –– and be faithful to –– the divine Principle (God, Love) and the rules (Mrs. Eddy’s 88th Manual) of this scientific method.
