Teach them many things.

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.” Mark 6

I never really paid much attention to the part, “and he began to teach them many things.” This immediately brought to mind the preface of Miscellaneous Writings, page xi – “A certain apothegm of a Talmudical philosopher suits my sense of doing good. It reads thus: “The noblest charity is to prevent a man from accepting charity; and the best alms are to show and to enable a man to dispense with alms.” It is easy to look at Jesus’ life as a series of miracles with some teachings sprinkled in but he was a living example of how to do what he did and see the source of what he did was God not personal. Mrs. Eddy also chose this quote to begin her collection of writings she wanted her students to use. It made me grateful for all the practical teaching at Plainfield Independent church that helps us live this Science every day.

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Proverb
