The "bond of perfectness"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

The definition of “bond” in the 1828 dictionary includes:
    5. Cause of union; cement which unites; link of connection; as the bonds of affection.
Charity is the bond of perfectness. Col.3

Col. 3:14: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”

I had not thought of the word “bond” in this citation, which brings out the unity of all of us working together in Love. I found this helpful in Miscellany, 164:20-29: “What is this something, this phoenix fire, this pillar by day, kindling, guiding, and guarding your way? It is unity, the bond of perfectness, the thousandfold expansion that will engirdle the world, —unity, which unfolds the thought most within us into the greater and better, the sum of all reality and good.”

This is a wonderful treatment for our nation and the world right now–nationally and around the world there is the suggestion that there are increasingly polar and destructive political divisions. There is actually more that unites us than can ever attempt to divide us, for God, Love, has ALL power.
