"The Lord shall rule over you"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I love this lesson selection of Judges and how Gideon responded to the adulation and requests from the Israelites that wanted to make him king. Their attempts to make a dynasty out of himself and his descendants was promptly refuted by him and his response “The Lord shall rule over you” is a warning? Advice? For the people not to seek worldly rulers but to seek the Lord’s rule. The world can never give us a just, loving ruler as the Lord Our God can be.

Time and time again, throughout history this has been proved true, except perhaps for a few God fearing rulers the rest has only brought wars, dissent, poverty and oppression. The same can be said about Church leaders and sects, they become engorged with greed and abuses (rather than love and compassion) becomes the norm. Mary Baker Eddy was the only Church leader that had the courage to stand up and start a religion that would follow in the footsteps of the first Christians and command of Christ Jesus “healing the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons.”

    Thank you for this Lesson.
